Until now, I have only explored people's stories through social media. I connect with people on the Internet and ask for their stories. But from now on, I’ve decided to step out and explore stories by directly asking people in person.
Since this is my first time approaching strangers to ask for their stories, I have many thoughts racing through my mind, such as how to approach them, how to start the conversation, and what if they reject me. It’s not exactly fear, but rather a mix of hesitation and nervousness.
Anyway, I went to a mall and started looking around to decide whom I could approach. Since it was Sunday and Friendship Day, the mall was crowded. I didn’t get a good chance to talk to anyone. Eventually, I sat down and wrote this in my diary.
Just as I was about to leave and try another time, a boy and a girl came and sat nearby. I watched them for a while. The girl was very beautiful, and I was wondering how to approach them. They were busy eating and talking to each other, and I wasn’t sure how to intervene. After some time, they were about to leave, and I was still wrestling with my thoughts. Finally, I pushed myself to go over to them and said...
Me: "Hey, hi... Happy Friendship Day!"
He: "He shook my hand and wished me the same."
Me: "Are you both friends?"
He: "Yes" (with a strange look).
Me: "I’m a story explorer. Would you like to share your story?"
He: "Sorry, we’re about to leave. Thanks."
Me: "Thanks. See you."
In my heart, I thought, “Rejection…”
But I know that in this journey, I have to face many rejections. I’m prepared for that. So after few minutes, I came out of rejection. I came home straightly and posting the day here. I am not here to give up.
I will try again next time and bring you a story.
